Hair restoration represents a surgical method which removes the hair follicles from one part of the body, named the donor area, to a balding or bald part of the human body, called the recipient area. The Turkey hair transplant techniques used to achieve this are quite complex and have witnessed a lot of improvements over the years.

In this article, our hair transplant physicians in Istanbul explain a few aspects related to the preparation of the donor area in hair restorations in Turkey.

How is the donor area prepared for a hair transplant in Turkey?

In order to prepare the donor area for a hair transplant in Turkey, a local anaesthesia is utilized for the entire operation.

The hair in the donor area (usually, the occipital region) is shortened to a two to four millimeters long and the local anaesthetic solution is injected just under the donor area.

The donor site is then rendered tumid by injecting regular saline into the whole area. 10 to 20 minutes later, the donor area becomes congested, which results in a great anaesthesia and minimal bleeding.

Should I get a haircut before a hair transplant in Turkey?

Our hair transplant physicians in Turkey advise you not to get a haircut prior to a hair restoration procedure.

They recommend you to let the donor area hair grow so there will be enough hair follicles for the hair restoration.

Additionally, the grown hair in the donor area will help hide the stitches after the operation.

Does the hair grow back on the donor area after a hair restoration?

Usually, the hair follicles which were extracted from the donor area and then implanted in the recipient site continue growing where they were transplanted.

This implies they will not grow back to the area where they were extracted from. However, if there is a good hair density in the donor area, there should not be any thinning of the hair in the donor site, if the FUE hair restoration is effectuated correctly.

What happens after a hair transplant in Turkey?

After the hair transplant in Turkey, our physicians will give you a full set of post-op instructions.

It might be a good idea to take some days off from work after the surgery. Your scalp will be swollen and sore and there might be some pain, therefore it is important to take some time to recover and allow the site to heal.
