Hair Loss: What to Expect at Your First Consultation Image
If you have decided to undergo a hair transplant in Turkey and you are wondering how it all starts, your physician will first effectuate an initial consultation when he or she will diagnose the degree of hair loss and present you with the options available in order to render the desired results.

Here is what to expect at your first consultation with one of our experienced Turkey hair transplant surgeons.

How is hair loss diagnosed by our physicians in Turkey?

Prior to deciding on a diagnosis, our hair transplant physicians in Istanbul will perform a physical examination and find out the patient’s medical and family history.

Then, he or she will effectuate certain tests, which may include the following:

•    Blood test: this could help in finding out if the patient suffers from any medical conditions related to hair loss, like thyroid disease;
•    Light microscopy: the surgeon utilizes a special medical tool to examine hairs trimmed at their bases. This test helps in discovering possible illnesses of the hair shaft;
•   Pull test: this will help to ascertain if there are any dysfunctions in the patient’s hair growth cycle. During this test, around 25 to 50 hairs are extracted from the head, after which they could be examined under a microscope to verify the shaft and the bulb of the hairs.
•    Scalp biopsy: in certain cases, the Turkey hair transplant physician could effectuate a biopsy of the head if supplementary data is required to assess hair loss inside the hair follicle. However, this type of test is not a common procedure.

Hair analysis at the first consultation in Turkey

During the initial consultation, patients can also expect to have a hair analysis which is effectuated to verify the reasons for a hair shaft abnormality.

This is a laboratory test effectuated only for patients who present a hair shaft abnormality which needs to be further examined for:

•    Altered hair-protein profile which could be genetically inherited;
•    A heavy metal contamination or a medication ingestion.
